To Change Jobs or Not to Change Jobs.

The play (or blog) that Shakespeare never wrote.

It’s the million-dollar question. Should I make a career change? I’ve got an OK set up where I am, and I know the lay of land. But I want more. Or do I? Do I want more challenge? I’d like more money…But there are things that are good. The people. Or not. The culture. Or not. My work-life balance. Or not.

Sometimes it’s clear as day that you need to find a new role or company. You’ve found yourself in intolerable circumstances – some of the worst being toxic cultures and people. Been there and got out – easiest and best decision I ever made.

Occasionally, it’s not even a choice and due to business changes, you find yourself thrust into looking for something new. There are time and financial pressures and looking for that new something, is like doggy paddling in the middle of a giant pool. What stroke do I use, and which direction shall I go in? I could literally do anything.

And often, when there’s the luxury of having job security and no pressing need to move, making the decision to prioritise more joy in your career, can be a huge and intimidating and easy to ignore step.

But the average employee in the UK spends 84,365 hours working in their lifetime. That’s 3,515 days. So, the question really is are you getting enough joy in those hours and days to see you continue in your current role or company? And if the answer is yes then, amazing!

If the answer, however, is no, then don’t worry but perhaps it’s time to step up your search for a more joyful job change. Having been there myself and worked with clients who have been through various journeys to changing jobs, I’ve put together ‘A Joyful Guide to Changing Jobs’ to help you through.

For more hands-on help in making a joyful career move, then I’m always delighted to work with clients and see them put themselves and their career happiness first.
